It means that harvesting occurs only after the tree has died and has been left alone in its natural habitat for several years. It is due to this process that sacred, medicinal and mystical properties of the wood are said to manifest themselves.
What does it smell like?
Palo Santo has a citrus aroma with underlying hints of frankincense.
Does it work just like any other incense?
No, actually these incense will only burn for short periods of time before going out. There are several reasons that I appreciate the fact that they do not stay lit for a long time.
Each stick is approximately 4" in length and 1.5" - 2" in width.
TIP: You can grate the wood with a kitchen grater and produce wood chips. You can burn it in this way placing on top of a heat resistant glass or metal incense burner or on top of a piece of charcoal. In addition, you can take the wood chips and powder them using a spice or nut grinder. I've read reports of making a tea from the grated wood chips but I have not tried it myself. Please do your own research to see if you believe it is safe enough to try on your own.
